The media response yesterday and today has been amazing — enough to make the website almost unreachable all day. There are several things I want to do (like add a donation meter, I know you want to see it) but haven’t had time as I’ve been fielding media requests all day. Everyone wants to know about this amazing opportunity that all of you have helped create.
National News:
Here are a few of the stories from local news stations:
Also, as I know you’re all curious, we have received over $28,000 in donations. That’s enough to give $500 tips to 56 waiters or waitresses; one per week for over a year!

is there a facebook page dedicated to this cause?
There is now! Search for Aaron’s Last Wish.
Amazing! Inspiring! If only Aaron could see what he has done! Many people will be paying it forward because of this one fun idea.

I just read your story @ CNN.com. Firts of all sorry for your loss. I see your brother’s pic and he looks like a great guy. I bet he was! This is such a great thing… taking care of his final wish and continue doing it on his name. I’m sure he is smiling and saying bigs “yeahhh” everytime you give another large tip. Big hugs for you and your family
Wow! This is an amazing story! I just saw it on our local news here in Colorado Springs, CO…
I am sorry for the loss of your brother, but you certainly are doing such good in his honor. You both are amazing people!
I am so touched by this…

I have to admit that after reading the news article on WMUR news 9, I was touched. After watching your video and then reading your initial post about Aaron and his final wishes, I teared up.
My father took his life on July 8, 2000, I was 16. The loss of a loved one is always hard, but with a suicide there is often a lot of unanswered questions.
I admire Aaron’s kind ways and gracefulness in life that you shared, you don’t find many people like him these days. I also admire your family. I admire the love, strength, compassion, and determination your family has to carry on Aaron’s legacy and wishes.
It takes strong people to embrace a dark situation while bringing such light and love to it. I hope that your family will be able to continue sharing Aaron’s story for a long time because this is a beautiful way to help raise suicide awareness.
Don’t forget the CNN article!

This is awesome! Your brother sounds like one hell of a guy. I am an Iraq war vet so I’ve seen the worst in people so this motivated me to give. I’m a father of four so I have a tight budget but I gave a 20.00 tip on a 8.00 lunch and told them about Aaron. Keep up the great work making your brother proud!
I say we tip the hiar stylist, the car wash guy, the delivery boy of newspapers, bell hop, valet parking, etc. It could start a wave of pay it forward and you could tag the phrase…”I am going to “Collins” someone tonight”. Meanig leave a tip to help someone and honor a past life in Aaron.
I would love if you had a Facebook page so I and others could follow you easier.. Plus it will get your word out there more… GREAT JOB may Aaron RIP knowing you fulfilled his wishes many times over…
Mechelle
Done!
You had a good brother for him to think of something like this as part of his will or last wishes. All the best to your efforts to spread a little joy through “Aaron’s Big Tip” program
This has inspired me!
What a beautiful story. Its great to see how we can all touch each others lives.
And btw, your brother’s wish has made the big time: http://www.cnn.com/2012/07/14/us/kentucky-last-wish/index.html
Peace to you all.
Here’s to wonderful memories of your brother, Aaron. What your family is doing is so flippin’ awesome I just had to say Thank You for the generosity you are showing the world. I am a very positive person and believe in the inherent goodness of mankind and you just reinforced it. My daughters and one son-in-law have all worked in the food industry and two of them still do. They have taught me to live big tips and I have never left one quite that big, but I do plan to do at least $100 very soon. Keep up the amazing goodness that each of these tips were generate. Kudos to your whole family!! Also, I lost a sister when she was 42 so I can totally relate to your loss. Hang in there Collins family, life goes on, eventually it gets more doable without that sibling, but it will never, ever be the same. Hugs to your whole family.
It’s on CNN. Perhaps you know this already.
Best wishes.
Hey there,
I just read about your brother’s last wish on CNN. I wish I had money to contribute, and the second I do, I will be hopping onto this site and sending as much as I can. Until then, though, if I can, I will leave someone a big tip, and I will make sure that they know it’s from Aaron. Either way, this story has inspired me to walk through life with a little more compassion, so thank you for allowing yourselves to be vulnerable and let the world in during this difficult time.
I am sure your brother was amazing, as the compassion has been carried on through his family, and you guys are going to great lengths to ensure that his life continues to impact others in a very unselfish and incredible way. I don’t know him, but I can only imagine how much his soul must be swelling with joy that you guys are doing this.
Thank you.
If I could hug you all, I would. I was just thinking to myself the other day, after an exceptionally bad day, that I wish there were more good in the world. That I wish people would just take a moment and help someone else instead of shooting them down. That no matter how badly someone treated you, just give them a smile and wish them well… and your brother seems to have been that wonderful of a person, and now you all are continuing in his stead. I hope that the goodwill you guys spread reaches far and wide. And I know that everyone you help will in turn help someone else… that’s the circle of love, as it were… the wheel of kindness. It makes me want to go out for pizza when my job starts back up in the fall.. and pass around this website along with a big tip. I’ve never had much to give, but I try to give all that I can, even if it’s just kind words. Please don’t ever stop changing lives with kindness. Impacts like this are world changing things.
Amazing… Truly amazing.
Truly inspiring story, u had such an amazing brother, son, etc. Im sure u all were very proud of him. Bless him and his family, thank the lord for sending him to us! Even though it was for such a short time, but it’s people like him who make a change in this world, even if it impacted one person, it’s still amazing,. Thank u for such an amazing organization u’ve put together, I promise I will be donating soon. God bless u all !
I never thought I would see something like this in my lifetime, especially as a result of someone I knew personally! As big as this story has become across the WORLD already, I’m beginning to think that it’s only just begun…and I can’t wait to see what happens in the coming weeks and months! I’m so happy for the family, that something so good could come of something so tragic. God is with us.
I just saw this on CNN, and I am touched. I looked at the YouTube video and it’s just amazing. I’m a manager and a chain restaurant in Texas. And to see this gave me goose bumps. This never happens and to see the priceless look on her face & what your brother wanted just warms my heart. If there were more people like your brother, this world will be such a better place. I get sad when I see my employees who have family leave with $60 a night. Keep up this missions and hopefully others will start tipping big! Xoxo
I saw your story on CNN. It is so nice to see a story like this. I do not have much to give but as soon as I can, I will be donating to your cause. What a wonderful way to remember your brother and change other peoples lives. Your brother must have been an amazing person. Best wishes to all of you.
I’m so sorry to hear that your brother / son / relative has passed. It seems like he had a wonderful, giving soul. I think his wish and your actions will touch many people. If I were on the receiving end, you’d make a grown man cry for sure. I hope that when you’re giving out the money, you’re including a small picture of smiling Aaron so people can remember his face.
I mean, people get to see you as the giver of the money. Unfortunately, without a photo, we can see the man with the wish.
Thank you for doing this. The lovely memory of your brother will on with me and my family.
Sorry, will be* not on…..o_0
Aaron must have been an amazing person. I’m so sorry for your loss. I’m so happy to see that yall are fulfilling his wishes and hope you keep getting many many more donations to keep spreading his memory and generosity! prayers to yall from Texas
your brother is so so amazing! my dad always leaves generous tips, noting like aaron’s of course!, but he believes that waitresses and waitors are under paid and underappreciated so i definetly see where your brother is coming from. He is truly an amazing guy and people will remember his name forever. What a great guy, touching lives of complete strangers.
Sorry about your loss but I know that he will forever be in your memories and in your hearts!
xo.
This is an amazing idea. Aaron is amazing and the Collins family is amazing. After seeing headlines with names like “Sandusky”, I think we all need to hear about something like this. Beautiful!
Thank you Aaron and thanks to your amazing family! I needed a job a couple of months ago, and I found myself being a waitress all of a sudden at age 38 again…The job was very stressful and demanding as it is a very high end place…One day we were super busy and one client that paid with a Black American Express card was very unhappy about the service he felt he got from me, claiming things I thought were unfair and untrue..I was hurt and embarrassed, the manager was asked to step in,etc… And of course as “the customer is always right”, I had not chance to stand up for my truth, or do anything about the unfair comments he made, but swallow them….About 2 weeks later I served a couple, nothing special, again we were very busy and I just did my job, without much chances of giving them any extra care than what was necessary or what I would have liked to give them…When I opened the checkbook, there was a Black American Express card for the bill and $100 in cash for my tip….I almost cried…All I wish since is one day to be able to do the same: walk into a restaurant and make someone’s day, leaving a huge tip, just for the plain reason of making someone happy…-:) It means soooo much…Love you all, and may Aaron rest in peace…
this story brought tears to my eyes. thanks for sharing and fulfilling his wishes.
So sorry for your loss and I can see that this is going to be going on for a very long time hopefully.. With the response you are getting are there plans to travel around to other areas of the state and country to spread this further than the Lexington area??
At this point we will have to spread out beyond Lexington, otherwise the waiters here will see us coming from a mile away!
Hi, Wonderful idea that your brother had. I think it would be awesome to do it and watch the reaction of the waiter or waitress from another table. During my younger days my buddies and I would leave very nice tips and we would hang around to see their reaction. Very cool thing you are doing for your brother.
Moved to tears & inspired. thank you.

Well done and go on, your bother memory will last!
What a fantastic story! My condolences to you, your family and friends. What a wonderful way to have him live on and touch people! This story will slow down and the money too but while it goes viral, which it is!, I hope you end up with hundreds of thousands of dollars so you can save it in a bank account and collect interest and do regular family dinners and be able to give those $500 tips for years to come! I’m off to share this on my facebook page now. All the best to you and yours!
This story is warm and heartfelt from the begging. Thank you for sharing. Waited tables from age 17-20, wish the best for the family and this world will be better place with more people like this. He will live forever .

Only getting bigger. CNN has it now. http://www.cnn.com/2012/07/14/us/kentucky-last-wish/index.html?hpt=hp_t1
Every day we seeing the amazing capacity of people to be truly awful. It’s pervasive in our news, in our personal relationships, and too often, even in our families.
Your brother and your family have given us an opportunity to demonstrate we also have an extraordinary capacity for good. Just a little money from each of us can show we, together, are so much stronger than we are when we act alone. Thank you for this opportunity. I am very grateful, and…
I’m in!
What an inspiring movement! Wish I had known Aaron. I’m sure he would be proud. Not just for fulfilling his last wishes, but for having such a compassionate group of family and friends!
This story was on our local news station in Charleston, SC. I immediately went to this site to read more. I am always trying to teach my children that doing nice things “just because” is important. I have had many examples of people helping me “just because”. I can’t afford to give large tips or to go out to eat, but I def will think of Aaron when I do acts of kindness for people. Thank you for letting the world know that there are still very kind and generous people in the world. I am so sorry for your loss of your brother. My 12yr old daughter just lost her father and people were very kind to my daughter and her grandmother. Again, thank you.
RIP Aaron and God bless family for fulfilling his will.
Being in the food industry my entire life, this broke my heart; then mended it within the same minute. I thought I was a big tipper, because I know what it’s like to live off tips…having waited tables in college to pay for Culinary School tuition. Aaron, is an inspiration, I have told all my colleagues of this organization. R.I.P Aaron, you were a God among men. We in the food service industry, salute you!
I am extremely touched by this. I hope this outpouring of generosity and compassion helps you and your family deal with this devastating loss. I also hope your brothers request for “homeless” help will be somehow included-(which these days can be anyone, not simply the misconceived illusion that theyre miscreants, drunk or high because thats what thry want to be–mostly theyre people the world has forgotten & likely stomped upon & had nowhere to turn). I hope others, out of your family’s loss, are inspired to “pay it forward”. People with no work & barely a roof, for now, once hopeful & positive, now terrified & overwhelmed, they cant help their own family, or themselves. (i dont even mean the ones that feel theyre just “getting by”, I mean families, those all alone, gone from getting by, middle class, to near-3rd world daily life. Here, in America, So much suffering, why must it be so?
Sorry for your loss and amazinly inspiring way to go.
I am from Belgium getting news on this – so please know Aaron has gone global with this legacy
I found a link to your story on CNN. As a waitress myself, I am so thankful that you are bringing this to light. Not only because it seems that your brother was a wonderful and caring man but also because it might have people think about that 10% tip they are about to leave. That waitress looked like she was tearing up, and I can only imagine what she must have been feeling at that moment! If she’s anything like myself and pretty much every other waiter/waitress I know that $500 could mean paying rent or not, eating or not, or being able to take a day off and not have to worry about if a bill will get paid or not! Thank you so much for passing on what seems to be your bother/son/cousin/friends philosophy in life. You can not know what kind of hope and eagerness to go to work the next day to every person in the food industry in the hopes that someone will take his example and thoughts into mind when filling in that tip line the next time the eat out. Thank you so very much!
Such an inspiring story. Tonight I left a 100% tip on a $30 tab…. with a note that it was in memory of Aaron. I am sorry for your loss, and I thank you for the inspiration.
A very inspirational initiative. Long may it continue!
I am very sorry for your loss.
please do not stop! and how about keeping up the web site so that we can all be a part of your journey! i have a son named aaron so i made a small donation my wife and i allways try to help when we can!
I assure you that each time we give a tip to a waiter or waitress we will be posting pictures and/or video right here. We want to share this experience with everyone who has donated. Generosity spreads; even though who just get to watch online seem to be touched by it and motivated to spread compassion.
Sorry Seth, I dont mean to intervene your conversation but do you read all of the comments you have received because I tried to comment a few times. Im assuming that the cash helped the restaurants revenue a lot. And do you plan on traveling outside of the state to give money to people in other parts of the United States? thanks for your time,
Anna,
I do try to read all of the comments and approve things so that we don’t get spam showing up. So, if you comment and it takes a while to show up, that’s why. We definitely plan to move outside of the Lexington area and in to other states to spread the giving spirit.
Seth
Such an uplifting story! I’ll try to fulfill Aaron’s wish as best I can here in London.
You should create a facebook page for this.
Hello!
We just left a $300 tip for our waitress this evening at the Standard Diner in Albuquerque, NM in honor of your brother. We wrote your website on the receipt as well. Thanks for the inspiration!
Warm regards,
Joanna and Don
Very generous! I am inspired by my fellow humans over Aaron’s wish and now your tips!
The world needs more people like you guys. I wish you all the best and I hope you keep on doing this for as long as you live. Although, I don’t recommend eating that much Pizza day.
You guys are awesome. What a wonderful thing to do. I wish I had the money to donate, I hope that the media keeps passing this along for you guys so that you can keep doing it, what a great way to keep Aaron’s memory alive. Wow. Amazing.
Hi,
I happened to be reading this story on CNN today while waiting for my food at a restaurant in the Outer Banks. I was touched and left a big tip for my waitress. I did not stick around to see her reaction, but have had fun imagining her face all night long. I wrote your brothers name and this web address on my receipt, so she will know it was in honor of your brother! What a neat thing you are doing and how cool that it has touched so many people!!
Truly very touched by the way you have all come together to leave a lasting legacy of kindness in Aarons name. So inspired that this evening I thought of Aaron while at the Lyndon Diner in Lancaster Pa.. I decided it was time for me to act…not just talk. I called my waiter over to the table. I showed him the article about Aaron on my cell phone and what your family is doing in his memory. I then told him I appreciated his service and I tipped him. as generously as I could. I wish it had been $500 but he was so overwhelmed with the story and the tip I gave him that he immediately with out hesitation hugged me. Thank you for inspiring us to action and to love. And thank you again Ty Lewis for great service at the Lyndon Diner in Lancaster, Pa.
Your family’s strength at this time is awe inspiring. The mission to honor your brother’s wishes is touching people in ways far beyond tipping generously. I know it has encouraged me to pick myself up, dust myself off and make a difference in someones life tomorrow…something I didn’t think I had the energy to do in these tough times. Such a simple concept many of us forget yet came so naturally to your brother and all of you. Thank you for the reminder!

Be sure to put up tons of reaction videos on this site!
Aaron must have had a huge heart to think of others like this in such a sorrowful time.
I hope his last wishes comforts you all too as you fulfill them for Him…
I can not afford much, but I sent it in his memory..
joel
God Bless Aaron and his family. The story is the message. Love and help one another. Life is tough. Only love remains.
This is amazing and I’m sure Aaron’s family is grinning from ear to ear with each impact on each life. What a touching story, being a single mom who was a former waitress – that $500 will burn his name into each heart’s memory, I’m sure of that!. I am going to ask the webmaster of our all volunteer bluegrass radio station .. to put up a link to your website http://www.aaroncollins.org for free…. to honor a young man – who wanted to make a difference in just one life – and blessed so many more.
Thank you so much for honoring his last wish, and his memory in such a thoughtful loving way and sharing it with the world. I will share it, too.

Very greate ideea to do that for the memory of your brother. I’m sure he is proud of you.
Sounds like Aaron was a great guy, and what you’re doing to honour his memory is just terrific. The news has reached Sweden, and hopefully some Swedish krona will help you fulfill Aaron’s wish.

It seems that your video went viral in youtube. I encourage you to do the same with every $500 tip you give. I am sure your brother would like to give the donations not only to the pizzeria crew, but any other place. So please! post those videos!

Hey, just wanted to say that what you do is awesome and that it hit the swedish newspaper “Aftonbladet” http://www.aftonbladet.se/nyheter/article15119576.ab
Hi! I just read about your story in a swedish newspaper and I was really moved from this! Its a really good thing you guys started! I am also a waitress in a pizza restaurant in a little town in Finland and if I had more money I would donate some to your charity! I am gonna tell a hole lot of people about this and I hope someone else can help you! Hope you can keep this up!
You are one the news in Sweden now!!!

Even Aftonbladet in Sweden reports:

Thats how I got it
What y’all are doing is truly incredible. Being a waitress for the last five years, I can understand the impact this can have on someone. The servers ya’ll meet will remember your family and your brother for the rest of their lives and share your story. I know I’ll be sharing it with my coworkers tonight. Not only will your brother live on in the hearts and minds of a lot of people, but you are changing a life and giving hope to one person a week…that is truly amazing.
I wish the very best for you and your family.
In the spirit of “Pay it Forward” and “It Could Happen to You” you guys rock! What a wonderful video and I checked your website right afterwards. I have lost a few relatives to cancer in the last few years, and this really moved me, what a terrific gem to find on the internet today when I signed on! My heart goes with you on this terrific dedication to Aaron’s life. Have fun ordering $500 pizzas together. That is amazing.
Swedish media is whriting about your brothers will today. Amazing!
Feel free to use my donation toward one of your meals, as this unbelievably selfless act of kindness sounds like it could get expensive for you (56 waiters/waitresses is a lot of people to see!)
Your Story has reached and touched the small community of Creston British Columbia, Canada. I am at a loss for words, this is all truly amazing, you were all lucky to have Aaron in your lives, and he was just as lucky to have family like you in his life to carry on this wish of his, that has become something bigger than Im sure you all imagined. Congratulations may you touch and change the lives of many along the way.
Amanda Kerr, Creston BC
I like the idea of marking these good deed bills with a sign (Aaron’s name). Suggest you switch to 20$ bills so they will get into circulation, anyone finding them know they represent the good in humans. Also it will simplify the girls motivation to share her good fortune with the kitchen and fellow waitresses. This is great
Thank you for sharing your brother Aaron’s last wish and for sharing this to the world. Many lives are touched and will continue to be touched by your doing so. I will do my part in my part of the world and in any part of the world I may be in the future. Rest in peace, Aaron! ~ Cristy from Cebu, Philippines
What a beautiful story to read tonight here in Canada!!! I watched the video and it brings tears to my eyes!! What a wonderful thing you are doing in your brother’s honour. He must be so proud looking down from Heaven!! Keep up the great work of giving to those that deserve it. I believe that this story will reach every corner of the world and will make us think of waiter’s and waitresses while we are eating out. It will for me!! As well it will entice people to pay it forward. It feels good to help others!! Kindness goes a long way and has many rewards!!
Okay maybe I’m missing something….I can’t be the only one thinking this…Although I am truly sorry for your loss….I am speechless here…You say, ” his last wishes were that any money he had be given freely in ways that would impact those who received it.” You mean the money he DIDN’T HAVE? It’s NOT Aaron’s money that is being used to “impact” people’s lives, but the generous DONATIONS of strangers correct? This is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard…and at the same time, quite genius I might add….Your whole family and maybe some friends, get to go out for a nice dinner at least once a week…paid for strictly by these kind donations to “Make Aaron’s Wish Happen” Fund…Guess that means, I could do the exact same for my family to insure that they are well taken care of financially, after my death? I am amazed that people are so gullible and would give their hard-earned money to make your brother’s wish a reality…This would be a totally different thing all together, a very wonderful thing, if it were Aaron’s money being used…but the only thing I see getting used here…are innocent people who are dumb enough to fall for your, quite brilliant scheme!! In the end, God judges the motives of the heart and all will one day have to give an account for their actions….
Sorry if it disappoints, Amy, but none of the money from donations pays for our dinners. That comes from our pockets, and 100% of the donations we receive are simply given to others. We are blessed to get that opportunity, and thankful for all the generous people that make it happen, but are not using any of it to be for our dinners.
Wow. Is awesome all! You have make true the wish of Aaron. Blessings for you and your family. I love all you write about your brother and I know that he’s grateful to you.

Like your brother, I don’t have much to give and I’m sorry I cannot contribute. But I wanted to say that I am very sorry for your loss and know that across the world people are thinking and praying for you. May Aaron Rest In Peace. “Death is but the start of eternity”
Read and saw the video through an online newspaper from Barcelona (Spain).
I’d wish we could do more things like this to change the world and make it a little better. Kindness leaves a mark in people forever.
Best wishes to all the family and so SO sorry for the lost of your brother.
Ana

What you are doing is truly amazing. A great way to honor your brother, his person and his life. Hopefully, this will sort of ease the pain a little. It’s nice to see something constructive and fantastic come out of such a tragic event.

LOVE the concept for the hard workers who serve. Glad you are doing this for Aaron, and I’m sorry he is no longer here to do it himself, but glad you, his family, and now all of us who have heard his story can continue his legacy of giving. I will continue to spread his name as I give more! Thank darynkagan.com for spreading his story around!!!
Hi,
Thanks for sharing Aaron’s story. My name is Mike Ward and I work at a company that champions the hourly worker: Snagajob. We’re all pretty touched by the way in which you’re living out your brother’s final wish and creating an inspiring legacy. We would like to help in any way we can – including sending you $500 and putting an additional spotlight on the unique way you’re honoring the hourly workforce. We’ll be posting all these great videos on our channels to help build awareness and keep the donations rolling in.
Best of luck,
Mike Ward

From Leeds, England, Good on you, keep spreading the word, a little generosity goes a long way and it nearly always comes back in some form or other.XX
Amazing!! Just read about it at the norwegian newspaper webisite:

LOTS OF LOVE FROM NORWAY!
Any updates on the donations or new videos? I read somewhere the donation site was moved? Last winter when Canadian freeskier Sarah Burke passed away they used giveforward.com and wepay.com (same company I think) to raise over $300,000.
Lloyd, I just posted an update on donation total. Great timing. We haven’t moved the donation site, so if you see others asking in our name, it isn’t us. We are looking to possibly partner with someone but nothing yet. If that happens I will post here.
You’re going to need disguise soon when you got to eat. Or you could pull a donation off at a drive thru at his favourite fast food spot.
where is the video of the 2nd wish being carried out- giving money to a homeless person?
No video, but we have given much of our own money to homeless, both directly and indirectly through giving to charities that work to support them.
What a very touching story. I will be donating and intend to kick up tips in my frequently visited restaurants. ~Mesa, Az
